Colleges of Arts & Sciences and Humanities

Teaching students to think well has always been at the heart of a liberal education in the humanities, arts and sciences. Deans of Arts and Sciences and Deans of Humanities realize that excellence results from enrolling the best students and educating them to become the best graduates possible.

They are using Insight Assessment’s well-respected educational testing tools to enable their admissions programs to identify candidates who have the strongest critical thinking skills and the desire to apply those skills. These candidates have outstanding potential to learn and to achieve to the maximum their potential.

Faculty are able to quickly and easily document the critical thinking of prospective or current undergraduate and graduate students. The data gathered with these tools are extremely useful for educational research, accreditation, learning outcomes assessment and program evaluation.  The ability to have results normed to undergraduate or graduate programs comparable to their own program was a significant factor in decisions to adopt Insight Assessment test instruments.

Insight Assessment offers a comprehensive selection of critical test instruments that are calibrated to measure critical thinking thinking skills and dispositions of  specific test takers. These test instruments include:

  • The California Critical Thinking Skills Test (CCTST) is being used worldwide to provide valid, objective and reliable measures of the core reasoning and critical thinking skill of undergraduate and graduate students. The CCTST has been proven to predict strength in critical thinking in authentic problem situations.
  • The California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory (CCTDI) measures test takers' motivation to apply critical thinking skills in decision making and problem solving. The CCTDI is calibrated for use with the general adult population including workers and working professionals at all levels, and for students in grades 10 and above.
  • The Test of Everyday Reasoning (TER ) : Widely used in 2 year colleges, the TER is designed to measure the critical thinking skills of test takers in secondary schools, the first two years of post secondary education or of adults of all ages in the general public.

Insight Assessment tests of critical thinking skills rely on case-based scenarios to provide objective, valid and reliable measures of these essential problem solving and decision making skills. Cost-effective Insight Assessment solutions are available through on-line testing or paper-and-pencil testing.
