Everyday Reasoning Package

Overview

The Everyday Reasoning Package is calibrated for test takers in in high school or the first two years of post-secondary education. It features two proven assessment tools: the Test of Everyday Reasoning (TER) and the California Measure of Mental Motivation (CM3 Level lll).  These assessments are widely used by public and private high schools, prep schools, community colleges as well as American and European International Schools.

Strong critical thinking skills and the motivation to learn predict student success and retention. Critical thinking is a process which requires strong skills. But, like anything that requires strong skills to achieve success, the individual or team of people engaging in that process must have the motivation to apply their skills to reach their goal.

A comprehensive assessment of a person’s critical thinking abilities requires measuring skills and mindset attributes (dispositions).  That’s why many community and technical colleges, certificate programs and other associate degree programs have incorporated the measurement and improvement of critical thinking skills and mindset into admissions, student success and retention programs.

Skills Assessed by the TER

The TER provides objective and reliable data on the critical thinking skills of individuals and of groups. TER report scores on:

  • Overall Reasoning Skills
  • Analysis
  • Interpretation
  • Inference
  • Evaluation
  • Explanation
  • Induction
  • Deduction
  • Numeracy

Mindset Attributes Assessed by the CM3 Level III

The CM3 Level lll measures an individual’s motivation toward problem solving and learning. The CM3 Level lll measures six attribute domains:

  • Mental Focus
  • Learning Orientation
  • Creative Problem Solving
  • Cognitive Integrity
  • Scholarly Rigor
  • Technological Orientation.

Data Reported

Today, educational programs and workplace training programs are being required to demonstrate that they are effectively improving critical thinking skills.

Assessment of critical thinking skills and mindset attributes provides important individual and group diagnostics.

Our assessment report package provides the tables and graphics needed to compare your students’ achievement with national norms and to identify individual and group strengths and weaknesses. Online testing includes an individual printable test taker report to document the scores of each individual with a short interpretative text.

Numerical and categorical interpretation of strength are reported. A norm-referenced percentile ranking is provided for skills assessments. Local test scores can be compared to national high school and 2-year college norms or to norms gathered from working professionals in entry level workplace positions.

User Manuals provide comprehensive information how to optimally interpret Insight Assessment results reports.

Validity and Reliability

The TER and CM3 Level III are built based on a growing science of the measurement of human decision-making. These assessments have been psychometrically evaluated in collaboration with researchers, educators, trainers and working professionals, to assure cultural and language competence in the intended test taker group.
